Udupi Air Quality Remains Moderate, India Faces Increasing Pollution Levels

According to the most recent data released by IQAir, the city of Udupi in Karnataka has recorded an Air Quality Index (AQI) of about 65, placing it in the moderate category (AQI 51‑100). The index is influenced chiefly by fine particulate matter (PM2.5) and nitrogen dioxide, which remain slightly above the World Health Organization's recommended thresholds.

Nationally, India’s average AQI is approximately 84, a level that lingers in the upper end of the moderate range. The upward trend is linked to increasing vehicular emissions, industrial activity, and seasonal dust storms, especially during the pre‑monsoon months.

While the moderate AQI in Udupi allows most daily activities without restriction, residents with respiratory conditions are advised to limit outdoor exertion.
