Udupi Airport Considered Only if State Govt. Proposes, Says Civil Aviation Ministry

The Civil Aviation Ministry of India has clarified that an airport in Udupi district would only be considered if the Karnataka state government formally proposes the project.

While the state has previously highlighted Udupi’s growing tourism and industrial profile, the minister underscored that aviation approvals remain contingent on a state‑led proposal and alignment with national aviation policies.

Should a proposal materialise, the new airport could boost tourism, improve freight connectivity and create jobs, potentially transforming Udupi into a key transport node for the district.
