On Sunday, the Udupi District Branch of the BJP Youth (Yuva Morcha) convened a meeting in Udupi town, calling for strict action against school buses that run at high speeds on local roads.
These privately run “school transports” have long been a menace, frequently violating traffic rules and endangering students with uncontrolled acceleration and erratic braking. Recent near‑misses near Karthika road, and a minor collision involving a secondary‑school convoy, have heightened alarm among parents and civic groups.
The Morcha’s leaders have urged the district administration and police to impose fines, conduct mandatory safety inspections, and ensure that driver licences and vehicle permits adhere to state regulations.
