In a swift police operation early Thursday, authorities in Udupi arrested a married couple suspected of perpetrating a Rs 23 lakh fraud. The arrest followed a complaint lodged by a local businessman who claimed he was defrauded of the sum through fabricated documents and false promises of investment returns.
Investigators say that the pair allegedly secured the money by presenting falsified certificates and leveraging their connections within the community. Preliminary evidence points to the couple using a fictitious company to funnel the funds, which were then siphoned to offshore accounts.
The incident has raised concerns about the security of local investments and prompted the Udupi Police to intensify vigilance against similar schemes. The arrested individuals are now detained pending a formal chargesheet, underscoring the authorities' commitment to curbing financial fraud. Source: Google News – Udupi.
