In a police operation on Saturday, a local couple was arrested in Udupi on charges of defrauding several investors of a total of Rs 23 lakh. The couple allegedly used a purported investment vehicle, promising unusually high returns to small business owners and community members.
According to the Udupi Police Crime Branch, the scheme ran for about three months, during which the couple reportedly withdrew money from multiple accounts under the guise of a legitimate investment trust.
