Udupi court bolsters security after bomb threat email

A bomb threat email received by the district court in Udupi has triggered a security overhaul. On Tuesday, the email warned of a potential bomb at the courthouse, prompting the court and local police to respond promptly.

The Udupi district court, which hears civil and criminal cases across the district, is located in the historic town of Udupi, a hub for education and commerce. Authorities say the threat came from an email address that was traced to a suspicious source. The court was on routine schedule, but the alert was taken seriously, as recent years have seen increased security concerns across Indian judicial institutions.

Since the email was received, police have set up additional checkpoints, conducted bag checks, and increased the presence of armed personnel around the courthouse. The court's operations have largely continued unimpeded, but hearings are now conducted with additional security clearance.
