Udupi Digitises 4,756 Ancient Manuscripts in State Heritage Initiative

In a bid to safeguard and democratise access to its rich cultural heritage, Udupi district officials announced that 4,756 ancient manuscripts have been digitised as part of Karnataka’s state heritage mission.

The collection, comprising palm leaf texts, copper plates and printed books ranging from the 16th to 19th centuries, was scanned using high-resolution equipment and annotated with metadata. State archives, local historians and a team of IT specialists collaborated on the project, which takes place in the district’s heritage conservation laboratory.

Digitising these manuscripts not only protects fragile originals from further deterioration but also enables scholars, students, and the general public to explore the region’s history online. Source: Google News – Udupi District.
