Udupi District Airport Proposal Discussed by Civil Aviation Ministry

The Ministry of Civil Aviation has indicated that establishing an airport in Udupi district is on the table, contingent on a formal proposal from the Karnataka state government.

This follows growing demand for air connectivity in the region and earlier discussions about developing a small airport near Palada. Local leaders and tourism bodies have highlighted the potential to boost inbound visitors to beaches and temples.

A new airport could create jobs, encourage tourism, and link the district to major hubs like Mangalore and Bengaluru. However, the project would need environmental clearance, community support, and a detailed feasibility study to assess runway length, land acquisition and cost implications. The proposal is still in early stages.
