Udupi District Collector Urges QR Code Scans to Flag Drug Activities

The Udupi District Collector held a meeting with local police and community leaders today, announcing a new initiative to use QR code scanning as a tool to spot and curb illegal drug activities.
With a rise in reported drug-related incidents in the district, authorities believe that many illicit transactions are now being facilitated through hidden QR codes placed on posters, billboards and street signage. By encouraging citizens and law‑enforcement officers to scan these codes, the Collector hopes to uncover the social networks that facilitate drug distribution.
Officials said that the information extracted from QR codes will be cross‑checked with existing intelligence databases, allowing faster disruption of trafficking routes.
