Udupi District Opens Tender for New ESI Hospital

On 14 March 2024, the Karnataka State Government unveiled a tender for the construction of a new Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) hospital in Udupi district, marking a significant step toward expanding public health infrastructure in the region.
The ESI scheme, aimed at providing free medical care to workers and their families, has seen low utilisation in Udupi due to the absence of a dedicated facility. By establishing a full‑service hospital on the district’s periphery, authorities hope to serve a broader base of workers across the IT and tourism sectors that thrive in the area.
The project, which is slated to cost approximately ₹75 crores and run over a year, is expected to create temporary construction jobs and provide long‑term healthcare access for more than 50,000 registered workers in Udupi and surrounding talukas. Source: Google News – Udupi District.
