Udupi District Receives Heavy Rains, Dakshina Kannada Wins Moderate Showers

The Bureau of Meteorology has reported that Udupi district received the best rainfall in recent weeks, with most towns registering 60–70 mm of rain. Meanwhile, the neighboring Dakshina Kannada district has received moderate rainfall, with figures around 30–40 mm.
These rains arrive as the Western Disturbance season begins to subside and the Southwest monsoon deepens over the coast. The heavy showers in Udupi are expected to replenish groundwater and irrigate the paddy fields, while the moderate showers in Dakshina Kannad are likely to cool down the hot summer heat without causing significant waterlogging.
Farmers in Udupi are optimistic that the ample rainfall will support early crop planting and reduce the need for irrigation, whereas in Dakshina Kannada, authorities advise residents to monitor smaller water bodies for potential overflow during heavier events. Overall, the rainfall pattern is seen as beneficial for the district’s agriculture and water security.
