Udupi District Secures Rs 2 Crore for Coastal Erosion Mitigation

In a move aimed at protecting its vulnerable coastline, the Karnataka government has earmarked ₹2 crore for urgent erosion control works in Udupi district.

According to the Maharashtra State Network, the funding will be used to construct seawalls, revetments, and other shoreline reinforcement structures along key stretches of the district’s coast. The initiative is part of a broader state effort to mitigate the impact of rising sea levels and prevent loss of property and livelihoods in the coastal communities.

The government estimates that the investment will help reduce erosion rates and protect critical infrastructure, including roads, pipelines and residential areas, thereby ensuring the safety of thousands of residents and preserving the district’s tourism economy.
