Udupi District Still Awaiting Rs 134 Cr Rain Damage Compensation After a Year

Despite government assurances, Udupi district still hasn’t received the Rs 134 crore compensation set aside for damage caused by the severe monsoon rains last year. The funds were allotted in the state budget with a 12‑month payout period, but the district remains waiting.

Monsoon floods in early 2023 damaged roads, irrigation canals and agricultural lands, affecting thousands of families. Local authorities had expected the compensation to circulate within the year, but bureaucratic delays and pending approval from the public grievance remedy committee have stalled disbursement.
