Udupi Doctor Arrested Along with Co-Accused in Child Trafficking Probe

On Friday, Udupi police arrested a local medical practitioner named Dr. N. Kumar along with a male co-accused after receiving a complaint that they were involved in the trafficking of children. The two were detained at the Udupi police station and are being held pending further investigation.
According to court documents, the pair allegedly arranged for the transportation of minors from Udupi to neighboring districts, where the children were to be sold for ransom or forced labor. The investigation, conducted by the Karnataka Anti-Trafficking Squad (ATS), cites eyewitnesses and forensic evidence that links the doctor to the financial transactions used to pay recruiters. Authorities say that the operation was part of a larger crackdown on child trafficking in the region.
Police officials emphasise that the arrest is one step toward ensuring that those who exploit children will be brought to justice.
