Udupi Enjoys Good Rainfall Amid Orange Alert

The Udupi District Administration reported a healthy rainfall influx during this monsoon season, which has replenished water tables and benefited agrarian activities. At the same time, authorities have issued an orange alert for citrus farms, signalling a serious risk of disease affecting orange orchards across the region.

Recent weather data shows cumulative rainfall exceeding 120 mm over the past week, offering relief to crops that had experienced water deficits earlier. The Government’s meteorological office attributes this positive trend to stable low‑pressure systems that have settled over the coastal belt, with rainfall expected to continue in the coming days.

However, the orange alert—issued by the Karnataka State Plant Protection Board—has prompted concerns among citrus growers. The alert indicates a heightened probability of a fungal disease outbreak that could damage trees and reduce citrus yields. In response, officials have accelerated field inspections, distributed fungicides, and advised farmers to adopt strict hygiene practices to contain the spread. The warning remains in effect until further notice, urging growers to stay vigilant and seek guidance from local agricultural offices.
