The United Mission for Animal Welfare has reported a startling 23% decline in the number of livestock in Udupi district, causing alarm among farmers and animal handlers across the region.

Comparing recent census data with figures from last year, the drop encompasses cattle, goats, sheep and buffaloes, possibly linked to a combination of disease outbreaks, erratic monsoon patterns and rising feed costs.
