Udupi Faces Continuous MESCOM Power Cuts Amid Monsoon, Straining Residents

In the monsoon season, the Mainland and Environment Services Corporation (MESCOM) has been imposing continuous load shedding across Udupi district. According to officials, power supply has been cut for an average of six hours each day, leaving households and businesses without electricity.
The outages are attributed to a surge in electricity demand during the rains combined with reduced generation capacity, as several hydro plants switch to maintenance mode. The grid’s limited ability to rebalance supply has forced MESCOM to prioritize critical loads, forcing residents into outages.
The frequent power cuts are affecting daily life, from preventing the operation of water pumps to disrupting transportation signalling and emergency services.
