Udupi Floods Drench District, Houses Hit, Roads Stalled

Heavy monsoon rains that struck Udupi District last week have left a trail of damage, with dozens of houses flooded and roads rendered impassable across several taluk centres.

The rainfall measured over 130 mm in parts of the coastal district, turning low-lying fields into temporary lakes. Local panchayats report that the Netravati and Swarna rivers have risen beyond their banks, and weaker roads that normally process daily traffic have been cut off by sudden landslides.

According to officials, more than 120 families have suffered property loss, with six homes reported structurally unsound.
