Udupi Forest Department Raises Efforts to Mitigate Human-Wildlife Conflict

The Forest Department of Karnataka has intensified its efforts to reduce clashes between villagers and wildlife in Udupi district. In a bid to safeguard homes and livelihoods, the department has rolled out several measures including an early‑warning system, community outreach programs, and tighter enforcement of wildlife protection statutes.

Under the new plan, forest officials will install electric fencing around key livestock pens and establish rapid response teams to handle incidents. Training sessions for local farmers will cover safe animal handling practices and how to minimise attractants that draw wildlife into human settlements.
