Udupi Man Loses 50 Lakh in Fake Stock Market Scam

By ETF Desk

Over the weekend, a 34‑year‑old Udupi resident reported that he had been defrauded of more than ₹50 lakh through a fraudulent stock‑market investment scheme. The scam, which promised large returns on minimal investment, lured the victim into a series of transactions that proved to be a sham.

Such schemes typically operate by offering attractive returns on mutual funds, IPOs, or direct stock purchases. They often rely on promising unrealistic gains and then disappear with the money, leaving victims with no recourse. Law enforcement officials the following day investigated the fraud and linked it to a group of operators known for targeting local investors.

The victim’s loss is a stark reminder of the risks surrounding unregulated investment advice. The police have urged residents to verify any investment opportunity with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) or the local stock exchange before committing funds.
