In a recent fraudulent scheme uncovered by local authorities, a resident of Udupi lost more than Rs 50 lakh after investing in a purported stock market opportunity that turned out to be a scam.
The victim, a 45‑year‑old part‑time teacher, was approached by a group presenting themselves as investment advisors. They promised high returns and provided fake documents, convincing him to transfer large sums to accounts linked to the scammers.
The sum lost could have severely impacted the taxpayer’s future plans. Local law‑enforcement reports indicate the investigation is still ongoing and authorities are warning residents to verify any investment opportunity with regulated bodies. Source: Google News – Udupi.
