Udupi Police Crack Down on School Vehicle Safety Violations: 203 Cases Booked

On July 4 2026, the Udupi Police Department conducted a comprehensive school vehicle safety drive, resulting in the filing of 203 cases against operators of vehicles deemed non‑compliant with safety regulations.
The operation targeted buses and private vehicles that had violated rules relating to seat belts, brake functionality and route boundaries on roads surrounding schools. According to police officials, the scrutiny covered over 500 vehicles as they entered and exited educational institutions on the day. The 203 offenders were issued fines, warnings or, in a few extreme cases, vehicle impoundments.
In total, the police collected approximately ₹71,000 in fines during the sweep, a figure that the department said would be earmarked for future road safety programmes.
