Udupi police has registered 203 cases in a sweeping operation targeting private vehicles used for transporting school children without proper authority or safety certificates.

The crackdown, carried out over the past week, discovered that many non‑school buses were operating beyond permissible hours and without the required motor vehicle registration numbers, leading to fines totaling Rs 71,000. Officers noted that the fines will be redirected toward local road safety campaigns and infrastructural improvements around school zones.

Authorities emphasise that the move is intended to curb traffic violations, enhance child safety on public roads and enforce compliance with the Karnataka Motor Vehicle Act.
