Udupi Police Deploy Cameras to Book Traffic Violations

In a new initiative to tighten traffic law compliance, the Udupi Police Department announced today that it has begun installing cameras at selected junctions to record traffic violations and automatically book offenders.

The 12 cameras, placed at busy crossings including Sarole, Kumbla, and the Udupi‑Bardoli route, capture license plates, speed, and any breaches of traffic signals. Collected data is transmitted to a central hub where qualified cases are automatically logged.

Police spokespersons say the technology will deter reckless driving and reduce traffic congestion, while simplifying the process for officers. The system is expected to issue up to 500 notices a month and cut the backlog of pending cases. Source: Google News – Udupi.
