Udupi Police Deploy Cameras to Reduce Traffic Violations

In a bid to improve road safety and reduce illegal driving habits, the Udupi Police Department unveiled a network of high‑definition cameras, known locally as NPR, at key junctions across the district.

The cameras automatically record violations such as speeding, illegal turns, and unlawful parking, capturing clear footage that serves as evidence for issuing fines. They follow Karnataka’s traffic management guidelines and are expected to deter repeat offenders.

Since the installation, traffic violations have fallen by about 30%, and the police have processed more than 1,200 fines within the first month, boosting revenue and encouraging compliance. The move has also received positive feedback from local commuters who appreciate safer roads.
