Udupi Police Deploy NPR Cameras to Reduce Traffic Violations

In a bid to curb escalating traffic violations, the Udupi Police Department unveiled a network of advanced NPR cameras across the district’s busiest intersections and arterial roads. These cameras, integrated with the Karnataka Police’s central traffic enforcement system, automatically capture violations such as speeding, illegal parking, and reckless driving.

Posted at hotspots like Gokarna Road, Shivamurthy Road, and the main bus stand, the cameras record 24/7 data that is relayed in real time to the police operations centre. The footage is then reviewed by traffic officers, who issue fines or initiate prosecution by linking the imagery to the vehicle’s registration details.

Since the system went live last month, Udupi Police have logged over 2,500 violations, a 30 % increase over the same period last year, while reports indicate a steady decline in repeat offenses.
