Udupi Police Deploy NPR Cameras to Slash Traffic Violations

The Udupi district police have launched a new fleet of NPR (Networked Parking Review) cameras to tackle the growing problem of traffic violations across the town’s busiest junctions.

These cameras, installed at major intersections such as Channarayapatna, Kattige and Kundapur, continuously record vehicles’ movements, detect illegal parking, overspeeding and other infractions, and automatically capture license plate details. The data is forwarded to a central office where police officers review the footage and issue fines to offenders in real‑time.

Since the system went live last month, the police report a 30% reduction in reported violations, with over 12,000 citations issued and a noticeable improvement in driver compliance.
