Udupi Police Raid Homestay, Seize Large Quantity of Ganja

In a coordinated operation, Udupi police raided a local homestay on Sunday, seizing a large quantity of cannabis products from the premises. The raid involved a team of officers from the district’s Narcotics Control Bureau, who entered the homestay early in the morning with a warrant issued by the local court.
The homestay, situated on Main Street near the Udupi Port, was discovered to be a hub for illegal drug distribution, with police reporting the possession of over 200 packets of ganja, equivalent to roughly 10 kilos of dried marijuana. Inspector Rajesh Kumar, heading the operation, stated that the evidence suggested the facility was supplying drugs to tourists and local residents.
The seized drugs are being held at the Udupi Police Station while an investigation continues. Two occupants were booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Police officials urged travelers and local businesses to report any suspicious activity. The incident underscores the district’s efforts to combat drug abuse amid an uptick in tourism.
