Udupi Receives Beneficial Rainfall as Orange Alert Issued

Heavy rains have drenched Udupi district this week, providing much-needed water to early‑season crops and helping farmers mitigate the impact of the dry spells that followed the monsoon.

However, agricultural authorities have simultaneously issued an orange alert due to a rise in the incidence of orange peel blight, which can reduce fruit quality and potentially depress market prices for the upcoming harvest season.

While the rainfall is expected to boost yields and keep fields healthy, the orange alert warns growers to increase disease monitoring and adopt preventive measures, ensuring that the sector does not see a sharp decline in productivity or revenue.
