Udupi Residents Protest After Repeated Power Outages

On days of the hot summer in Udupi District, communities across the region experienced frequent and sudden power cuts, sparking a wave of anger among residents and local businesses. Citizens, many of whom rely on electricity for cooking, cooling and internet connectivity, have taken to the streets and posted appeals on social media demanding a swift resolution.
The Maharashtra Power Transmission Authority (MPTE) and State Electricity Board have attributed the outages to an inadequate meter reading system, which they say leads to overcharging and unnoticed power leakage.
