Udupi recorded a significant improvement in its Air Quality Index (AQI) this week, moving from hazardous to moderate levels. This change indicates a drop in particulate matter (PM₂.5 and PM₁₀) and lower concentrations of nitrogen dioxide and sulfur dioxide in the local atmosphere.
The decline aligns with national data that shows a reduction in air pollutants across major Indian cities, partly due to tighter emission controls and a milder monsoon season. IQAir, a regional air‑quality monitoring service, reported that the daily average AQI for Udupi averaged 62, comfortably below the Indian threshold for unhealthy air (AQI of 101).
With cleaner air, residents can expect fewer health complaints such as breathing difficulties and eye irritation. Local health authorities have urged the public to continue monitoring daily AQI updates, especially during seasonal changes, to protect vulnerable groups. Source: Google News – Udupi.
