Udupi’s Air Quality Index Rises Amid National Pollution Surge

The latest readings from IQAir indicate that the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Udupi has risen to 88, placing the city in a 'moderate' category of air quality. This marks an increase of 15 points from the previous 73 reported yesterday.
Nationally, India's AQI has been climbing over the past week, with major urban centers such as Bengaluru, Mangalore and Mysuru reporting values that cross the 'moderate' threshold, attributable to increased vehicular traffic, industrial emissions and crop burning in surrounding rural areas.
Health experts caution that sustained exposure to moderate pollution levels can affect respiratory health, especially for children, the elderly and those with pre-existing conditions.
