Recent measurements from IQAir’s monitoring network indicate that Udupi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) has remained in the unhealthy range, with particulate matter concentrations exceeding recommended limits for both PM2.5 and PM10.
The AQI, which aggregates data on fine and coarse particles, ozone and other pollutants, is a critical metric for public health. Nationwide, many regions in Karnataka and neighboring states report similar spikes, raising concerns among health officials and prompting calls for stronger emission controls.
Elevated particulate levels can aggravate respiratory and cardiovascular conditions, especially among children, the elderly and individuals with pre‑existing ailments. Residents have been advised to minimise outdoor exposure, wear masks and use air purifiers where possible. Source: Google News – Udupi.
