Woman Arrested in Manipal Plot to Kill Friend for Gold

Police in Manipal detained a 32‑year‑old woman on Wednesday, following tips that she had plotted to kill a friend for her gold jewellery. Investigators say the suspect reportedly threatened the victim over a disagreement about recently acquired gold items.

The arrest came after a tip‑off by the victim’s brother, who reported the suspect’s threats to local authorities. Police recovered a list of items allegedly targeted, and seized several pieces of jewellery from the suspect’s apartment.

Authorities warned that the case underscores a rise in targeted violence over personal property in Karnataka. The woman faces charges under the Indian Penal Code for attempted murder and theft.
